Theatre Northwest – Academic Program
The theatre program at Northwest Missouri State University provides a dynamic combination of classroom experiences, hands-on production work (early and often), self-directed learning opportunities, and professional internship experiences, all under the close mentorship of experienced professional theatre artists and professors. All theatre majors enroll in a theatre “core” which provides comprehensive coursework and practical experiences in all major areas of theatre. Students may choose a major in performance, technical theatre/design, education (teaching), or may combine interests which may include coursework and experiences outside the theatre area (i.e. a theatre major with a minor in music, dance, business, psychology, etc.). Students may also “specialize” within individual majors, such as a technical theatre/design student who may choose to focus on lighting or sound, a performance major who may choose to focus on directing, or an education major who may choose to focus on secondary theatre and forensics coaching. The possibilities are practically endless!
